Little Sugar River Farm
Guest House
The Little Sugar River Farm offers you peace and seclusion on a small, chemical-free farm along the Little Sugar River in southern Wisconsin. The Little Sugar River Farm is ideal for couples who want to get away from the city and relax on a small farm surrounded by wildlife areas. Because we're close to two bike trails that run through wetlands and forests, biking, hiking, and birding are some of our guests' favorite activities. Winter stays offer the possibility of cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or simply relaxing by the wood stove with a good book. The guesthouse sleeps two to four (adults only). Set at the edge of a wildlife preserve with views of a distant moraine, the house has exposed structural framing and raised battens reminiscent of early 20th century farm buildings. French doors open to a large back porch, which looks out over fields, prairie, woodlot, wildlife preserve, and moraines. Interior flooring, cabinets, and furniture were custom designed for their specific location and built of cherry and oak harvested from the woodlot. Within the main room of the house, three walls of windows flood the interior with light. Vaulted ceilings in the main room create an feeling of openness. A massive cherry sofa, dining table, and wood stove anchor the living space. The furniture throughout the house was hand-crafted by local woodworkers. Guests have complete privacy because only one party is here at any given time. Our house is in the workshop on the farm, 10 yards away. The farm is available for weekends or for longer stays, with accommodations for up to 4 adults. The house is ideal for a romantic retreat for one couple, and quite comfortable for two couples. The house includes one upstairs bedroom with a built-in, king-size bed of cherry wood and an adjacent bath with a large soaking tub for two people (with reading lamps and a skylight overhead). An upstairs study offers a quiet place to read or check email. The downstairs bedroom has a built-in, queen-size bed. Downstairs, the living room, dining room, and a well-equipped kitchen are part of a vaulted great room. A small but extensive library of books, magazines, CDs, and videos is available for you to use. A second bath (with a shower) is on the main floor.
